Summer Herds Competition 2016 Results

Well what a fantastic week we have had this year for our annual Summer Herds Competition – from scorching weather to an AMAZING judge.

Mr. David Wright, BERRYHOLME summed up his three days visiting 14 farms with a slide show of photos that he took on his way round and remembered every single entry no mean feat by anyone’s standard,  it was extremely impressive and hugely entertaining. We could then see before us the momentous task he had in front of him.

All classes were very well supported notably the Junior Cow Class 2nd lactation animal which topped the entries with 15 forward. Standing out and coming top of the class was Woodclose Adrenalin Dellia, bred and owned by A & B Bargh & Family of Woodclose Skelton.

Another noteworthy class was class nine the group of heifers in the small & large herds, the judge said  all were very well balanced and a credit to all the breeders. Having the edge in the small herds was Malcolm & Jean Hutchinson from the Bowberhill Herd of Redgate, Kirkby Stephen. And coming out top in the large herd section  was Duncan & Helen Horsley from the Woodcatt Herd, Woodhouse, Penrith.

We had 8 entries altogether in the large & small herds. The small herd title going to Andrew Carter from the Gerrard Herd, Gerrard House, Wigton and the large herd accolade being awarded to Messrs Wilson Stowbeck Herd, Skirwith Hall, Penrith.

Going forward to represent the Border & Lakeland Holstein Club in the Regional round of the Premier Herd Competition is Skirwith Hall Farms Ltd, Stowbeck Herd.
