Outstanding Quality at May Pedigree Sale
The May Pedigree Dairy Sale held on behalf of the Border & Lakeland Holstein club at Borderway, Carlisle had another super consignment of freshly calved cows and heifers sired by some of the Holstein breeds top bulls. Trade topped at 1,700gns to average £1264 for a 100% clearance. Although milk producers continue to face many challenges demand for freshly calved animals remains strong and will continue to do for the foreseeable future.
Auctioneer Glyn Lucas commenting after the sale said “I was once again very impressed with the quality of animals on offer today something the pedigree breeders in Cumbria and Scotland should be very proud of. This is without doubt the best sale in the UK for quality”.
The Border & Lakeland Show was sponsored by Paragon Veterinary Group and Cogent and judged by Craig Cochrane from the much admired Maverick herd in Ayrshire. The Champion went to Snow May Jo consigned by G&M Wilson Appleby who sold for 1,650gns to J. Rae Boghead Farm, Dumfries. May Jo was sired by Gillette Stanleycup her dam was a Denmire Gold Medal daughter with over 10000kgs followed by a string of Excellent and Very Good dams all with massive production.
Topping the sale at 1,700gns was a special uddered heifer consigned by John & Gordon Lyle from Fife. Cambus Lionheart Liz will follow in the footsteps of her full sister and make a classy VG heife, she was purchased by the judge.
The Lyle family sold a total of eleven super heifers with their Cambus Lylehaven Morag 2 selling for 1,400gns to an undisclosed buyer.
Also selling for 1,400gns was Doonvalley Security Jess consigned by Ayrshire breeder Mr Robbie Scott. Jess was a strong framed heifer with a cracking udder, sired by Vetech Security Jess. She was purchased by A. Dunlop Bridge End Farm Ayr.
The next sale at Borderway takes place 1st June 2016 and features 150 head in our Borderway Monthly Dairy Day. The dispersal of the Meiklefirth herd on behalf of David Yates featuring 350 pedigree Holsteins takes place at Borderway, Carlisle on Wednesday 8th June 2016.
