 Gloriette Tops Trade For Wormanby

The Border & Lakeland Holstein club kicked of the summer sales at Borderway with another quality sale packed with heifers giving large volumes of milk.  Trade topped at 2,600gns to average £1865 with fourteen animals selling for or more than £2000 and animals going to twelve counties with the four home Nationals all represented on the buyers list.

The consignors must be congratulated on the exceptional quality of the animals on offer commenting after the sale auctioneer Glyn Lucas said “...this really is one of the best places in the UK to buy top quality dairy cattle and the breeders must be praised for selling their very best.”

The show was sponsored by Zoetis and Cogent and judged by Tony Hunter from Berrier Head, Penrith who made Espland Jordan Marilyn 7 Champion consigned by DI & AA Cannon from Espland Farm, Appleby.  She was sired by Gillette Jordan and bred from four generations of Very Good classified cows, this ultra stylish heifer sold for 2,500gns.

The Reserve Champion went to Warnelview Fever Silverwings 3 consigned by the Wilson family from Wood Farm, Carlisle.  She was sired by Crackholm Fever and traced back to Burwren Midnight Silverwings EX92 with over 60 ton lifetime.  This perfect uddered heifer sold for 2,200gns to Barr Farm Ltd, Fife.

A number of elite pedigree heifers were on offer and the stand out lot was Wormanby Statesman Gloriette bred from eight generations of either Excellent or Very Good dams.  Her grand dam was the All Britain Nominee Wormanby Aftershock Gloriette EX93 who placed 2nd at both UK Dairy Expo & UK Dairy Day in 2014.  The foudaion member of this cow family was Donoavn Sheik Gloriette EX94 who was the leading member of the famous Hayles herd in the 90’s.  Wormanby Statesman Gloriette sold for the top price of the day at 2,600gns.

Skirwith Hall farms sold three super milky heifers topping at 2,300gns for Stowbeck Pure Jeanie sired by STE Oldie Pure and bred from an Excellent dam projected for over 15000kgs this lactation.  She now joins the herd of W Brewster, Wester Borland Farm, Stirlingshire.

Evening Hill Holsteins sold six outstanding heifers all giving oceans of milk to top at 2,200gns to average £2108.  Topping their trade was a beautiful red & white heifer sired by Gen-I-Beq Skyfire Red that would be a highlight in any Red & White show.  She was purchased by an undisclosed buyer.

There was a quality consignment of in-calf heifers forward from the Deveronside and Chapelford herds from Aberdeenshire topping at 1,700gns twice to average £1517.  The first heifer to sell for 1,700gns was Deveronside Trump Flora due in the end of July and bred from a Very Good dam with over 11000kgs and was purchased by Clark Farming Ltd, Preston.  Deveronside Poison Liz also sold for 1,700gns and was purchased by T&M Irving Bectonhall Farm.
