The April Border & Lakeland Show and sale had an impressive catalogue of freshly calved cows and heifers all producing oceans of milk and consigned from high health status herds. Trade topped at 4,900gns for a well bred heifer with the overall average for heifers coming to £2034. The sale also included the Spring Selection Sale that topped at 5,500gns to average £3397 for an incredible group of heifer calves.
Paragon Veterinary Group sponsored the show and Neil Sloan from the Knowe herd in Ayrshire judged the pre-sale classes. The Overall Champion sold for 3,000gns and was purchased by Baltier Farming Co, Whithorn, Newton Stewart. Grayridge Milo Zambese was consigned by Jim & David Gray from near Glasgow, she is a daughter of Eclipse Milo and traced back to the Zandra cow family from Ocean-View in the USA.
The Reserve Champion was consigned by Absolute Genetics from near Preston, Richaven Chief Adeen is sired by Stantons Chief and bred from an outstanding line of cows all classified Excellent going back to Aitkenbrae Starbuck Ada. Her third dam, Lavenham Adeen, was one of Durham best daughters in the UK and was Champion at the Great Yorkshire, UK Dairy Expo and Agriscot. She sold for the top price of the day going to the Caldwell family in Ayrshire for 4,900gns.
