APPLE TOPS FOR BOCLAIR

The June Border & Lakeland Club Show and Sale was brimming with excellent cows, heifers and in-calf heifers many bred from elite pedigrees.  Trade topped at 4,000gns for a great granddaughter of Apple with the overall average for 113 Holsteins coming to £2412.  The sale also included 20 in calf heifers from the Wormanby herd that topped at 2,400gns to average £1913.

Paragon Veterinary Group sponsored the show and Gary McCormick from the Ceeingred Holstein herd in Dumfrries judged the pre-sale classes.  The Overall Champion sold for the top price of 4,000gns and was purchased by Baltier Farming Company.  Boclair Rubels Apple Red was consigned by the Brewster family from near Glasgow.  She was bred from an Excellent 92 Jordy dam, her fourth dam was KHW Regiment Apple Red.  Her sister Boclair USB Apple Red sold for 9,000gns in the Boclair Bright futures Sale in 2022.

The Reserve Champion was also consigned by the Brewster family from near Glasgow, Boclair Lambda Barbara is sired by Farnear Delta-Lambda and was bred from an Excellent 92 dam.  This super uddered heifer sold for 2,900gns to the Millar family in Kirpatrick Fleming.  The Boclair herd sold another four heifers to average over £3000, the Boclair Bright Futures Sale 2024 will take place on August 21st and features 150 of their best heifers.

The sale started with 15 outstanding Holstein cows all giving large volumes of milk.  They topped at 2,800gns on four occasions to average £2685. The first to sell for 2,800gns was Berryholme Morris Rae who was consigned by David Wright from near Kendal. Sired by Altamorris and bred from the Roxy family her sixth dam was Scientific Debutante Rae.   She was purchased by the Jackson’s from Redhills in Dumfries.

The Errolston herd sold 10 super cows and heifers to average almost £2700 with several members of their Ricki cow family featuring in the top prices.  Errolston Formidable BA Ricki sold for 2,800gns to Graham Mackie from Glasgow.  She was producing 50kgs in her second lactation.  Errolston Repairman FH Ricki also sold for 2,800gns going to the Jackson’s from Redhills in Dumfries.   Her grand dam was Formation Ricki who was Champion at the Royal Highland Show in 2004. 

Wormanby Holstein sold 7 cows and heifers to average £2511 and topped at 2,800gns for Wormanby Dalliance Madrigal.  She was giving 52kgs and will be the fifth generation to classify Excellent or Very Good she sold to the Jackson’s from Redhills in Dumfries.

Denmire Holsteins sold 3 top quality heifers topping at 2,800gns for Denmire Milano Miss America who was bought by the Jackson’s from Redhills in Dumfries.  Her dam was a Very Good Sandy-Valley Challenger daughter with the next eight dams all classifying Excellent.

As well as selling a special group of milkers the Wormanby Holstein herd sold 20 in calf heifers to average £1913.  They were due in September, October and November to several leading female sexed sires.  Topping this exceptional group was Wormanby Rubels Sheri who was bought by the Baltier Farming Company near Newton Stewart.
