BERRYHOLME TOP WITH DANDY

Milkers average £2486

The October Border & Lakeland Club Sale attracted a superb selection of pedigree Holstein cattle from the North of England and Scotland.  Overall quality was exceptional, as was the pedigrees of many of the animals on offer, trade topped at 4,800gns with the overall average for the milking cows and heifers settling at £2486.  The sale included the Carldanton Autumn Opportunity Sale on behalf of Anthony Grimshaw from Bolton.  This special group of heifers topped at 3,300gns and averaged £2605 for a tremendous group of milkers. 

The sale was sponsored by Paragon Veterinary Group and was judged by Neil Millar from Woodhousehill, Kirkpatrick Fleming.  He selected Denmire Dumbledore Marie as his overall Champion and went on to buy this super uddered heifer for 2,900gns.  She was consigned by the Dennison family from Scales Park Farm in Ulverston.  She was bred from their famous Marie cow family tracing back to four special Excellent cows that produced over 100 ton of milk lifetime.

Reserve Champion was awarded to Feizor Adorable S Flo was consigned by David & Will Booth from Old Hall Farm in Lancashire.  Flo was sired by Adorable and had three past National Champions in her pedigree.  She sold for 2,800gns and was purchased by Messrs Patterson from Ayrshire.

Topping the sale at 4,800gns was Berryholme Lambda Dandy (was not entered in the show) who was bought by Mr Coulthurst from Preston.  Dandy was consigned by the Wright family from Lancashire and will be the ninth generation of cows to classify in the top two grades.  Her fourth dam was the prize winning Ingleview Rudolph Dandy EX96.  Four other heifers from Berryholme sold to average £3268. 

Another heifer that was not entered for the show was Norwoodbrae Fitz Abbiene who sold for 3,800gns to Mr Coulthurst from Preston.  She was consigned by David Howat from Ayrshire, she is bred from the Starbuck Ada cow family, her grand dam is sister to the 2022 Great Yorkshire Champion Enchanted Beemer Abbiene. 

David and Callum Gray from Drumtall Farm near Glasgow sold three high production heifers all bred from awesome pedigrees and topped at 2,800gns for Grayridge Amaretto Rachel, she is potentially the fifteenth generation to classify either Excellent or Very Good tracing back to the famous DRA August cow family.

There was a powerful group of short-bred heifers due in March consigned by the Walton family from Beech Holme Farm near Carlisle.  They topped at 1,700gns for Beechholme Adorable Barbara.

Several herds consigned some well-bred bulling heifers and they topped at 2,200gns for Berryholme Adorable Armana who was bred from ten generations of dams classified VG or Excellent with her fourth dam being the All American winner Apple EX96.  She was purchased by Neil Sloan from Ayrshire.
