The best Border & Lakeland catalogue in the history of this famous monthly sale series featured a plethora of phenomenal pedigrees. Many of the leading cow families in the breed graced the sale with most of the animals selling excelling in both conformation, production and pedigree. This outstanding group of cows and heifers topped at 4,500gns to average £2160. It is worth noting that despite the outstanding quality 57 animals sold for less than £2000; incredible value for money!
The show was sponsored by Finance For Farms and was expertly judged by Alister Vance owner of the Bridge House herd near Newton Stewart. His overall Champion went to the winning Senior Heifer in milk, Boclair Delta-Lambda Rose who was consigned by the Brewster family from near Glasgow. She traces back to the prolific brood cow Bosdale Storm Rose EX93 who bred the 18,000gns Ridgefield Progress Rose. She was bought by Mr Caldwell from Ayrshire for 3,500gns.
The Reserve Champion went to the same home this time for winning Junior Heifer in milk Boclair Lambda Gypsy. She was an impressive framed heifer with a ton of style and giving almost 40kgs, she sold for 3,300gns to Baltier Farms near Newton Stewart. The Boclair herd sold four heifers to average £3058.
The top price heifer went to Errolston Master Mass Ricki (who was not included in the show) who was consigned by the Davidson family from Gretna and sold for 4,500gns to Mr Evan in Shropshire. Her dam was an Excellent 92 Massey cow that gave over 100-ton lifetime, her grand dam was an Excellent 93 Goldwyn that gave over 80 ton lifetime followed by the 2004 Royal Highland Champion Stannock Formation Ricki EX93. The Errolston herd sold another ten heifers to average almost £2500.
Potts Boom Abella sold for 4,000gns to Mr Roper in Preston and was consigned by Phil Potts. Sired by Regancrest Boom she will complete the eighth consecutive generation of Excellent cows, her third dam was Kingsway Sanchez Arangatang EX95 who was a winning four year old at the Ontario Summer Show in 2014.
The standout Red & White heifer was Pinupgirl Jordy Stockings Red who was consigned by the Weatherup family from Fife. Her third dam was the 2016 UK Dairy Expo Champion, Parkend Director Starlet Red EX93. This super uddered heifer sold for 3,200gns to Mr Roper near Preston. The Weatherup family sold another ten heifers to average £2420.
