“Wonderful Day For Warnelview ”
The 36th Annual Autumn Border & Lakeland Bull sale attracted the best Holstein and British Friesian bulls for this famous event. Bulls bred from pedigrees with incredible production, type and longevity had enticed buyers from across the UK to Borderway. Trade topped at 6,000gns with the overall average coming to £3010.
The pre sale show was sponsored by Finance For Farms and was judged by Aubrey Greenhalgh owner of the Enchanted Holstein herd in Lancashire. He tapped out Warnelview Newport as his Champion Bull selling for 3,500gns to Mr Jones from Chester. Warnelview Newport who also won the Production Championship was consigned by the Wilson family from Wood Farm near Carlisle. He was sired by Renegade and was a great grandson from the herd icon Warnelview Final Cut Nita EX97. His dam was an Excellent 93 Control daughter who is fresh in her fifth lactation with the possibility of classifying 95 points later in the year. His grand dam is the highest classified daughter of Nita currently Excellent 95 points.
Winning the Bell Trophy and the Overall British Friesian Championship was Winnoch Optimum who was consigned by Ian Brocket from near Glasgow. He was a son of Goonhilly Perran and bred from a very productive line of the famous Penguin cow family. This powerful framed bull sold 3,000gns going to Mr Taylor from close to Edinburgh. Six bulls sold from the Winnoch herd including Winnoch Omaha who sold for 3,000gns.
The Warnelview herd sold eight bulls to average almost £3500 with Warnelview Franz topping the sale 6,000gns going to Mr Metcalfe in North Yorkshire. Franz was sired by Willsbro Abbot with his first three dams all classified Excellent going back to the two time Royal Show Champion Carsland Eclipse Flo. This impressive consignment also included Warnelview Kestrel who sold for 4,000gns to Newhouse Farms in Dumfries and Warnelview Real Deal who also sold for 4,000gns to Mr Bunting in Derbyshire.
One of the standout bulls in the sale was the Reserve Champion, Wormanby Ally who was consigned by the Hodgson family who farm near Carlisle. Ally was sired by Comestar Loyall, his sister was the winning Milking Yearling at UK Dairy Expo in March. His first seven dams are all Excellent going back to the famous Kingsway Terrason Allie who many special show winning daughters in Canada. Ally sold for 3,000gns to Mr Dalling from Lanarkshire.
Richard Bell owner of the Nerewater British Friesian herd consigned four exceptional individuals to average £3412 and topped at 4,200gns for Nerewater Reliant Gallant who was the winning Junior British Friesian bull and Reserve Champion British Frieisan. He was sired by Nerewater Reliant and was bred from the Nerewater Gladlass 33 who was classified Excellent 94 and produced over 60 ton lifetime. He was purchased by Mr Howat from Ayrshire. This powerful consignment included Nerewater Reliant Missile who sold for 4,000gns to Mr Gratton from North Yorkshire.
The next dairy sale at Borderway takes place on Wednesday 18th September and features 400 Pedigree Holstein and Jersey cattle in the September Border & Lakeland Sale followed by the inaugural jersey Jewels sale.
