The February Border & Lakeland Sale was packed with quality cows and heifers many elite pedigrees such as the Apple, Roxy and Lasenza’s.  Trade topped at 4,500gns with the overall average for milking cattle coming to £2935 with 45 animals selling for or above £3000.

The show was sponsored by Paragon Veterinary Group and was judged by Stuart Forshaw from Preston.  The Champion went to Bilsrow Amulet Iloa and was consigned by Aubrey & Oliver Greenhalgh from Carlsile who went on to sell for 3,500gns to the judge. She was sired by Alta Amulet and bred from a deep cow family with massive production.   

Standing Reserve Champion was Crossfell Hanley Roxy who was consigned by John Greenop from the Bridgedale herd near Wigton. She sold for 3,300gns to the Caldwell family from Ayrshire.  She was sired by Hanley and was bred from the Denmire Roxy line.   

Topping the sale at 4,500gns was a super second lactation cow, Berryholme Chief D Flo (unshown) from the Wright family from near Kendal and was bought by Michael Reece from Cheshire.  Flo was bred from four generations of National Show winners with three of these special cows being National Grand Champions.  Her dam was Doorman Flo EX93 who was the winning Junior 2year old at UK Dairy Expo in 2019. The Berryholme herd sold another four heifers to average £3425.  

One of the standout pedigrees in the catalogue was Bocalir Ryder Apple Red who was consigned by David Brewster from Glasgow. This super uddered heifer was sired by Ryder Red with her fifth dam being the famous KHW Regiment Apple Red who was a multiple All-American winner.  She sold for 4,200gns to Loran Murray from Shropshire. 

The Logan family from Holehouse Farm in Ayrshire sold 9 heifers to average £3027 and topped at 3,400gns for Holehouse Say Rilla Red who was bought by the Davies family from North Wales.
