DENMIRE TOP IN 50TH ANNIVERSAY SALE

Records Set at Borderway

The famous Borderway Sale Centre celebrated its 50th year anniversary in style on Wednesday 21st August with 1850 cattle traded through the famous rings with the overall sale turnover totalling over a record £2 million.

The sale included the August Border & Lakeland Club Show and Sale, the Boclair Bright Futures Sale and the annual Lismulligian British Friesian Youngstock Sale.  The sale was brimming with excellent cows, heifers and in-calf heifers many bred from elite pedigrees.  Trade topped at 6,500gns for an in calf heifer in the Boclair Bright Futures Sale with the milking animals in the Border & Lakeland Club sale topping at 4,200gns with the overall average for milking Holsteins coming to £2544. 

Paragon sponsored the show and Scott Forsyth from Baltier Farms in Newton Stewart judged the pre-sale classes.  The Overall Champion went to Denmire Ferraro Star who was consigned by the Dennison’s from Scales Park Farm near Ulverston.  The first five dams in her pedigree were all Excellent tracing back to the famous Dinah cow from Bridge End Holsteins.  This awesome uddered heifer sold for 3,800gns to the judge. 

Champion Denmire Ferraro Star and Reserve Denmire Swingman Marie 744 on the 50th Anniversary week at Harrison & Hetherington were both from Messrs Dennison with judge Scott Forsyth and Glyn Lucas.

The Reserve Champion was consigned by the Denmire herd, this time for the winning Senior heifer, Demire Swingman Marie who sold for the top price in the club sale at 4,200gns to the judge.  She was sired by Westcoast Swingman and bred from the famous line of Excellent 94 pointed Maries who all produced over 100 ton lifetime.  The Denmire herd sold another eight heifers to average £3031.    

The Errolston herd from Gretna sold a cow and 3 heifers to average over £2700 and topped at 2,900gns for Errolston Mason Win Ricki.  She was bred from ten generations of Excellent or Very Goods with her fourth dam being the famous Formation Ricki cow who was Grand Champion at the Royal Highland Show and was bought by Stu Forshaw from near Preston.    

Lismulligan British Friesians owned by Basil & Adam Lawson from Fife, held their annual youngstock sale of bulling heifers topping at 1500gns for Lismulligan Dawn 60.  She was sired by Manorpark Google, her dam was an Excellent Kirby Major cow preceded by three other Excellent or Very Goods.  This super stylish show heifer was bought by the Moscrop family from Rye Close Farm.  This well grown group of 27 heifers averaged almost £900.
