The September Border & Lakeland Show and Sale attracted some of the best milking cows and heifers from the north of England and Scotland. Trade topped at 3,600gns with the overall average for milking Holsteins coming to £2388.
Finance For Farms sponsored the show and Steven Hunter from Berrier Farm near Penrith judged the pre-sale classes. The Overall Champion and Reserve went to the Stowbeck Holstein herd owned by Len & Chris Wilson from Skirwith Hall Farm. Stowbeck Chief Mavis was tapped out as the overall Champion after winning the Junior Heifer in milk class. She was bred from a deep cow family with impressive classifications and massive lifetime production.
The Reserve Champion was, Stowbeck Rager Gilly she was sired by Rager-Red and was bred from an Excellent dam that produced over 70 ton in six lactations. Both the Champion & Reserve sold for the joint top price, selling for 3,600gns to Evans family from Shropshire.
